My fascination with landscape; pictorially, lyrically and conceptually has proved to be a deep well of creativity. For me painting from nature is a way to emotionally connect with the truth of human experience. I have recently responded to the recent colour growth in my flower beds during the Covid 19 Crisis. This painting was painted plein air and completed in my studio in Jordan Station, Ontario May 1 2020. This work accesses the imaginings of both a wild and nurtured existence. Being imaginary develops a view onto the world. This, I am sure, is what is historically meant by an ‘artist’s vision’”. Catharine’s painting takes up the notion of landscape as a metaphor allowing her to make an artistic sense of the world by using brush marks and colour akin to musical notes. Catharine paints on canvas and board using oil, watercolour and mixed media.
